On a sunny Seattle Saturday, this year’s annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound picnic brought together nearly 400 attendees for a beautiful day filled with fun, learning, and connection at the Tukwila Community Center.

Hundreds of Bigs, Littles, and families arrived to be greeted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound’s incredible staff. Chief Operating & Finance Officer Marsh Kellegrew and Senior Accountant Staci Knight staffed the check-in table, pictured here.

There were many community partners in attendance, with offerings by Seed4Stem, PFLAG, King County Library System, Coordinated Care, the High Definition Robotics Team, and the US Forest Service.

The air was filled with laughter and the buzz of conversation as people dove into a variety of yard games and fun activities. Bigs, Littles, Parents & Guardians took on games of badminton, crafting unique t-shirts, trying out Zumba classes, Yoga, potato sack racing, and even tried their hand at making homemade vanilla ice cream.

With the generous support of our partners, we were able to serve 400 delicious Panda Express meals donated by Panda Cares, 400 hot burgers donated by Dick’s Drive-In, snacks donated by Trader Joe’s, and fresh produce to take back home to the family provided by Coordinated Care, keeping everyone well-fed.

As Seattle summer is coming to an end, attendees were also given warm winter coats by Operation Warm to keep our community members cozy and ready for upcoming fall adventures.

Moreover, thanks to the High Definition Robotics Team, our attendees were able to explore the world of technology and innovation by driving around their metal FTC robot! 

It The King County Library System (KCLS) was on hand with a selection of books. A voter registration stand was supporting attendees in being able to make their valuable voice heard in the upcoming elections.  Seed4Stem let our attendees playfully interact with STEM, while the Forest Service provided tree cookie painting and drawings for the younger members of our community to further the education on forests. PFLAG handed out resources, education, and offered opportunities for positive connections to the LGBTQ+ community. Last but not least, Free2LUV hosted fun, interactive art installations.

This year’s Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound Annual Picnic truly was fun for everyone. It was a day of our community coming together, learning, playing, eating, and sharing the joy of togetherness.
